I saw the sign….giveaway~

Hello Wednesday!  Are you ready for a giveaway?   Today’s giveaway will be for  a wooden, double-sided sign.  Yep, a sign~ You can alter it anyway you want.  Here is an example of one I just did this week.  One side is painted in chalk board paint, so I can use it for a list or a quick note.  The other side is more of a decoration, but I did add 2 clothes pin clips and some sticky notes.    There is also a frame so I can add a picture.  I love the chair paper from October Afternoon so I put a limit on my decorations.

Products I used October Afternoon paper: Sunday Dinner, Church Social, & Guest Room, yellow acrylic paint, chalkboard paint, Craft wood letters EAT, Tim Holtz button, clock, spinner, knob & distress ink, black frame from home decor department @ Hannah’s, 2 clothes pins, a few clear buttons, chipboard house, May Arts trim, K & Co smash tape, Chalk, Maya Road heart, Rosette Die, and bakers twine.

October Afternoon: Let's Eat Kitchen Sign

Here are a few examples of other signs I made for Hannah’s.

The signs are fun to decorate for a kids room, seasonal decoration, chalk boards, kids photo college, or make up your own sign.  I bet you have an idea of what you would do with it.. however the giveaway is on the Hannah’s blog, so please follow me over there for your chance to win.  You will see a very similar post that is where you want to leave your comment if you want to win the sign.  I will also be posting my sign with Work In Progress Monday’s at ScrapScene.  I love that site~

CHA ready or not!

Hello CHA!  (Craft & Hobby Association-Winter Conference & Trade Show)

CHA (pronounced C-H-A, not like cha-cha-cha) is like the best event  for crafters since all of your favorite manufacturers are there.  CHA is held twice a year, I have been to a few summer shows but this will be my first trip to the winter show.  The summer show is in Chicago and the Winter Show is in California.   Lucky me… I live in Wisconsin, so going to Anaheim, California for anything in January is awesome.
CHA is the  place to be for buyers, independent craft stores, on-line stores, bloggers/websites, and media looking for the newest and best  in crafting.  One of the perks of attending CHA is that you will also have a chance to meet some of your on-line crafting friends.  You will also meet many of the design team members, store owners, “celebrity” crafters (that you are obsessed with) and you will even make new friends.
Manufacturers bring their newest designs, designers are there giving you demos, the booths are amazing to look at, the amount of information is overwhelming, but worth it~  You stand and walk pretty much all day/night.  If you attend a workshop, seminar, or get in on a make n take.. that is pretty much the only time you sit.
I am going to seminars from 8:30 a.m to 9:00 p.m on Saturday, there is a small  break in there somewhere & I will go to 2 workshops somewhere in there too.. but I like to take in as many business related seminars as possible.    Sunday I will attend an event w/ EK Success,  be on the show room floor drooling over all the products I want, and meeting up with my friend Rina who is from California.   Good Times~ Monday will be another day of  planning out my upcoming classes, trying to decide what I want to buy, and meeting a few new people.  I also have a few more events to check out that day & plan to meet Tori Spelling in the afternoon.
Sounds like fun right?  Well I did leave out some good stuff but I want to save some surprises.  I will post pictures on my facebook page so make sure you follow  scrap it girl on facebook.   I will be back with a new post next week~

Craft Store Classrooms: The Good, The Bad and The Fab :)

by Kim Congdon (Scrap It Girl)

Do you use the classroom at local craft store?  Do you love the space or do you wish they would make a few changes?
Classrooms in craft stores are becoming more and more popular. Not everyone has a craft space in their home, so we look for places to go. Of course going to a crop or taking a class is better when you bring a friend or two :)
Let’s take a peak inside a few classrooms. I went to 5 stores in my local area and here is what I found.
Bustripscrap 032
This classroom was a great size and had plenty of space.

 Crafts 009
This classroom is dark, dingy, and isn’t very inviting.

Bustripscrap 091
Beautiful & Huge. I love the hardwood floors, comfy chairs, and I like the layout of the tables.  This classroom has windows that look into the store.  You can easily get around this room and you can spread out.

This classroom is big but it was full of clutter. Too much product, displays, and tools.  It was hard to feel comfortable in this room. There wasn’t enough space to walk around, I felt stuck.

Here is a brand new classroom at a Michael’s Craft Store. The room is bright, cheerful, and inviting.  However the room was small and the tables are narrow.  I do love the sink, the use of their tools, and the display of ideas.
I currently work in a classroom that needs an update, and I’m excited to be tacking their classroom update for them this fall! While the classroom itself isn’t the only consideration for me when planning to attend an event, it’s certainly important!
10 Things I Consider When Attending A Class

  1. size of classroom
  2. table space
  3. products on sale
  4. cost of crop/class
  5. location
  6. lighting
  7. food/drink
  8. prizes/drawings
  9. hours of crop
  10. clean & inviting space
